Keep in mind this is a large car with alot of stock amenities. It's also a niche one and many won't pay 40k for a large sedan. Some will, just like some bought the Pontiac G8 GXP.

It's good publicity and will sell a few. They'd sell a few more in a Fusion SHO as it's smaller, lighter and cheaper.

The Mustang will have a 3.5 or maybe 3.7l engine (can't remember which) and 315 hp NA and the GT will be a 400hp 5.0l V8. No real need for a 365hp ecoboost that would cost more than the GT with less power.

A few years back, BMW saiud they'd never sell a 3 series abo0ve $30k, becasue peopel wodntp buy it. Now look.

Fords have sold at the price point of the SHO. Remember, the SHO is a limited edition halo version at that price point, MOST Taurusus wil be in the $30k range, which is about avarage for a full size sedan these days.

Just like most Mustang GTs sell for about $30k, but the Shelbys sell for $50k+ as do various other tuner versions. And of course, the Ford GT sells well over $100k with that same Ford badge. FOrd doens't have to sell 100,000 SHOs, and the versions they will sell hundreds of thousands of are considerably less expensive.

The Taurus is no longer a mid size sedan, but a full size, with quite a few luxury features and a pretty nice interior. Lots of grunt, great handling with the Performance pack suspension option.

The Pointiac G8 woudl be a great competitor. If Pontiac existed anymore. the 5 and 7 series BMWs are decent competitors for more money.

As for weight, my own 740iL weighs the same and it's quite willing in the twisties, so don't count out the Ford on weight just yet, until you drive one. (a whole lot of people in here saying terrible things about the car without having so much as sat in one, much less driven one).

The same thing happened with Chrysler in 2005, they had all these new cars with unheard of prices (38k 300C, 35k Pacifica, 30+k Magnum).

People were enamored by the looks, technology (Cylinder Shutdown?) and they managed to get hot, for some time. I can now say that the Pacifica and Magnum were fails and the 300C hasn't actually been setting any records too.

Ford might not be bankrupt, but it now faces competition from two vastly different entities that have been to fight school (we should also not forget that the government holds a huge interest in both). If they don't sell a huge number of cars, they would just have delayed the inevitable visit to court.

THe early 90s SHO was great! My friend had one in high school (98-01) and even then it was one of the faster cars on the road. That yamaha v6 took a BEATING for almost 200k miles before the car crapped out.

I think the new SHO is rather nice looking. I just wish it were alot lighter....
