We actually planted a lot of our yard with hummers in mind. I don't like feeder shots either, but they will rest on the nearby branches and that is where I try to get them. It's been hard the last couple of years because the yard has been in a constant state of construction and my patio shade has been non-existent, but hopefully that will change soon.
