Newer diesels have so much emissions and complicated crap on them. They make BMWs seem cheap to own. I wouldn't buy a diesel after 2003. My friend works at a diesel shop and they regularly have guys who spend tens of thousands in repairs on relatively new trucks. Turbos, head gaskets, injectors, high pressure fuel pumps, catastrophic engine melt downs due to emissions regen mode, etc. There is a reason all the local businesses have switched from diesel back to gas trucks. Sure you can delete some of the emissions stuff, but the government is cracking down in certain states with big fines for missing emissions equipment.
With the F150, the 5.0 V8 is the way to go if you want reliable power.
