Over boost, how does it work and what happens to it when you flash tune?

Always thought this was weird of the N55 M2, 'overboost'.

I understand it's time limited (10-15s?) and by its very name will activate if certain criteria are met, but what are those exactly and what is the refractory period?

Is it limited by IATS and/or other parameters?

Then when you flash tune the car, is overboost gone and your car makes whatever power the flash gives you?

369lbft sounds ok if it were all the time, but I had a 2l four pot custom stage 1 Tune VW car make 349lbft on the dyno.

Kind of weaksauce that this 3L 6cylinder M car will make more torque than a 235i but seemingly reluctantly and just some of the time?
