Friend of mine picked up his M3 comp in the frozen pure grey (I believe is the name?) spec and I think it looks great.

He did partial front matte PPF to keep the finish similar.

Upkeep is fine so far for him as far as 2 bucket method on the non-PPF'd areas goes, he's about to hit winter in Colorado so time will tell if those ridges + valleys end up being harder to maintain.

As long as you maintain + wash on a regular frequency, you should be able to live with it as you do a non-matte finish vehicle. The only inconvenience I am aware of is obviously no ability to paint correct in case a significant scratch gets collected. I think there are some companies out there who have matte paint touch-up products that do a decent job for rock chips.
