If the turbos are damaged and not replaced, they could generate metal shavings in the future and destroy the whole engine again. I would get in writing from the insurance company that they will cover any future engine failure due to turbo failure and effectively provide a warranty, as I doubt BMW will provide warranty coverage for that scenario, if they are recommending turbo replacement.

It is very difficult to determine turbo damage without disassembling them to inspect the bearings, but they will then need to be rebuilt and rebalanced, costing a significant portion of the replacement units.
