That failure time will typically be a short period, though.

A small 2.5mm diameter hole with 2 bar oil pressure at cruising revs will empty 5 litres in one minute. If the oil level warning detects a low level in the sump immediately, you would have about 40 seconds to shut the engine off before oil stops reaching the bearings. If you receive a low oil pressure warning, if the engine isn’t shut off immediately, it is probably too late to avoid damage.
