Drove the car home slowly (just a few miles), never hit the "engine overheating" message.

Coolant is full, oil temps were fine and oil levels are fine, but coolant temp went all the way to the edge of red (didn't go into red).

I'm assuming water pump issue, but really concerned if there is damage to the engine.

Should I be concerned?

Tow it to the dealer. Definitely not worth risking the car. Check under the hood for steam or any coolant leaks.
