I will be the first one to admit that I am not really cross shopping any other cars. I have owned a 335i and an M3 now and I have to say, that type of driving and daily usability is exactly what I am looking for! For what I want, the M3/M4 is the perfect balance. I have two friends who recently jumped from BMW to an Audi S4 & RS5 and they love them but me, I just cant see myself enjoying any other car, community, and brand as much as I do BMW.
The only reason I would shy away is more out of necessity rather than choice. For example, I just traded in my M3 for a 2014 Jeep SRT because we needed two cars that would be good in the snow and the wife needed something she could drive. I immediately regretted that decision and now the wife is getting her a new car and I am on the list for the M4.
