Yeah, I thought that too, till I talked to the lead technician at my local BMW dealer. He said that stuff in the 1-Series trunk is Sirius/BMW Assist, etc equipment. Then he said he'd look up the part #'s of HU & location of stereo system amp. Called him back later, he said std/HiFi amp was in the left rear seat panel & that the HU is the same part# for std or top HiFi in the USA. Only variations are w/iDrive & HD radio. IE there's 4 distinct HU's.
