I'd buy the diesel here IF they sold it (which they don't). The diesel offerings from BMW are sparse in the US, only the 330d and the x5 d. Looks like the X3 may become available with a diesel here, but for now, that's it. A shame, as I'd like the diesel, regardless. I waited a year after a rep at the autoshow in NYC indicated it would be coming, but at the Detroit show this January, they said not likely until MAYBE 2013. I'm picking up a 535 in APril in Munich.

For better or worse, you're paying more for your fuel because your government is taxing it more, not because the base material costs (nearly) twice what we pay in the US. Now, IF they would use that tax money to really improve roads, I'd pay a bit more, but it tends to get siphoned off on other things. The road quality there verses here isn't really twice or 3x as good...better, maybe (but I haven't driven over there for years...used public transport the last few times, so it was hard to say for sure!).
