It's a bit cumbersome, but I think you may be able to activate the MDM sport display, then dial back the individual driving settings while keeping the sport display. This seemed to work for me when I tried it.
If you use the car's Spotify app instead of CarPlay, can you play whole albums like on a computer instead of just shuffle play like on the phone?
