I don't know why people are surprised every time. Look at the E90 M3 (introduced in 2008, LCI in 2009 with new taillights, new iDrive, etc.) and the F10 M5 (introduced 2012, LCI in 2014 with new lights, grills, Comp Pack, etc.).
Personally, I think it's worth waiting and picking up the first year of the LCI F80 M3.
