Finally stopped raining and decided to swap today, never understood why we couldn't spec the tip type in the first place, what a waste BMW!
I over-prepared even with a rubber mallet, a piece of wood, and a heavy-duty trim tool. Ended up using the piece of wood to leverage against the middle cross-section of the muffler (around the seams), not even the mallet was used.
If you look at the tip at the 12 o'clock stud opening, there are 2 welded spring locks, those will simply bend and give when you pulled out the original tip. That must be like a secondary safety catch though the spring tension pieces on the inside wall are plenty strong enough.
Once I aligned the new tips, I simply palmed them home, not even needing a mallet.
