Stealing a Progman disk from work is the same as stealing a GT1: theft. BMW's software is not open source. The only thing BMW (or any manufacturer) is obligated to supply to the public free of charge is compliance with OBD2 standards. The rest is proprietary, and they can control it however they want.
If (big if) you're even able to recode/program a RAD2 on your own, the next time the car needs to be updated, the module will fail outright or have everything overwritten by the SSS. Either way, you'll be back to square one.
