I agree with this, and I've also been driving MTs for decades.

BMW shifters are little rubbery but I never had trouble getting into the proper gate. They are... ok? Workable, but lack the aesthetic pleasure of the snickty-snickt short throw gearboxes. S2000s, Miatas, etc. it's OK, only OK.

The clutch is less good. The release point is weird, the travel is long, the CDVs that BMW insists on using do no favors.

Aftermarket fixes exist of course, but if we are talking about stock, there's nothing to brag about here.
