I ordered my 50i in sapphire black with the tinted windows and shadow line. I really don't like the chrome accents (around the windows).

Maybe that has to do with it, but even the sales person agreed with me that it sounds louder than any other BMW, even the M cars. When I say loud, I don't mean it in a bad way...it's just the tone is higher than others. When you get your car, I'm sure you'll agree
