Very, very well said.

There many logical reasons to picking a modern sporty AT over a manual, and vice versa.

I would like to add that there is a visceral thrill to running through the gears pedal to to metal in the M4, especially from a stop or a slow speed. The exhaust note, the fast seamless shifts, the inertia pushing you back in the seat. . . throw in a meaningful corner and I feel very connected to the car. It’s intoxicating. So I would argue that an AT does not necessarily detract from a connection to the car, but might actually add to it.

And this is my first sporty car with an AT in 50 years of driving sporty cars.

Regardless, I would never criticize anyone for getting manual.
