I remember my earliest days as a poseur. I would drive my mom's automatic 1966 Ford Falcon letting off the gas and moving my hand as if actually shifting gears. Only the purist would realize that no Falcon of that vintage was available with a manual transmission. Little did I realize that the factory Cruise-O-Matic transmission was expertly designed to provide the optimum shift points for ultimate performance.

Still it was fun and even to this day, I enjoy pretending to be more adept at what gear I prefer to be in at any given moment that letting a super computer make the decisions. I know that it is mere folly to think I could ever approach the efficiency and performance of an automated transmission, but I really prefer my dream world of revving engines and shifting gears on my own. I know I'm still very child-like and immature, but I do have fun. Maybe one day I'll grow up, but not bloody likely.
