I am asking because I also wanted to tap my R7. I spoke to a local shop that hard wires radars all the time, and he said tapping the mirror is a "terrible idea" because the radar wont receive it's full power. He said he runs a wire through the interior trim and down to the main fuse box.
If you are able to find out if your R7 is running at 12v and let me know I'd really appreciate it.

Eh? And the radar detector turns on and functions normally with a lower voltage and that’s bad?
More details on what the shop said or maybe a new shop to earn your business?
