I'm approaching 1,000 miles on my G80, and I'm thinking it's the best steering BMW since the E46. Light but precise, and it tracks down the road straight as an arrow. Very confident and comfortable cruiser. I think it's better than my E90 M3, as well as the two F22 2 Series we've owned. I think in terms of driving dynamics BMW has found its way again.
I don't remember what my e46 drove like other than I loved the car. The one thing that is not my favorite about the g80 is the electronic steering. I might notice this more since I came from a 911. Other than that, this car is great and enjoy it more and more the longer I have it.
I still have an E46 M3, and the steering has a heft and precision that I really like. I haven't driven an E90 M3 since selling mine years ago, but the G80 is significantly better than recent models I've driven - including F22 235i and 230i X-drive. It's closer to the E46 than any of those models. I can't personally compare to the Porsche, but I like the G80 steering better than the Miata RF I just sold - and that car has received praise for its dynamics.
