At my track, tow hooks are required to be installed (front mandatory, rear recommended).
If you spin out, go off-track, have an accident, etc., you do NOT get out of the car and the tow driver is on the track a minimal amount of time-- he's not going to dig around in your trunk to find your hook.
With the hook pre-installed, he comes out, hooks on, tows out very quickly.
