I've only had my car for a few days but from what I've read about iDrive 8 is that no, there are no climate rules anymore like we used to have. Instead, the car tries to be smart and do things for you automatically.

For example, I drove the 760 on Saturday when it was 45F outside and had the steering wheel heating/seat heating set to Low and they didn't kick in. When I changed them to Medium they did.

This morning it was 6F and they both turned on despite being on low. It seems that it takes outside/inside temperature into account when deciding what and when to turn on.
