Good morning, regret having to ask this question but have read the manual and search but can't believe the "answer".

Do our M2s not control the fan speed when the AC is in Auto? Doesn't matter what temp i select or the current temp the fan stays on whatever speed i have manually selected.

In Auto, it seems to use the selected "preferred" fan speed if the air blend can reach the temperature selected. If the temperature is not achievable it will then start to vary the fan speed, returning to the "preferred" speed if it can when the temperature is reached. From my experience, this is the way it has been for other F & G-series BMWs I've driven.

Is this what you are actual experiencing? I'm in Dallas and on a 88 degree day with the car parked in the sun placing the AC on "low" and "auto the fan doesn't adjust at all.

You have witnessed your fan adjusting speeds in "auto"?

Yes - Automatic Program enabled in iDrive, sync on, medium intensity. I then just set the desired temperature and the fan speed adjusts if necessary. I also have the rear climate control system (2023 car).

Ensure when Automatic Program is enabled that the up and down arrows are not used for fan speed, but instead tap the large or small air flow icons, otherwise it won't change the fan speed from manual mode that the up and down arrows enable.

Interesting bit of info.

But I don't see the large/small air flow icons you speak of. I've only used the +/- controls to change/set cabin fan speed. I would very much like to have the fan speed under automatic control. My other cars with auto climate control were superb in keeping the temperature in the cabin just right with no need to play with the controls at all. One reason was the fan speed was under auto control.

Later at the car I'll tap various areas of the display to see if I can figure out how to get fan speed under auto control.

Nevermind. I read the owners manual (!)...

Setting the intensity
General information
When the automatic program is activated, the intensity of individual climate control functions can be individually adjusted, for example:
▷ "LOW"
▷ "MEDIUM"
▷ "HIGH"
Each level has a specific control range of the intensity.
Based on the stored data models, the intensities are dynamically adjusted while driving. It is not necessary to manually change the desired intensity to lower or higher levels while driving.

But I have to mention the dynamically controlled fan intensity doesn't seem to be as good as I would like.

I'll go so far as to say the "auto" program sucks. It's much worse than the previous climate control settings in iDrive 7. At least in the previous version you could set specific temps at which the heated seats & steering wheel would activate & it controlled the interior temp better. It was 43 degrees driving into work and no heated seats or steering wheel & the car was blowing a/c However, it's activated the heated seats when it was 73 degrees outside & I couldn't figure out why I was sweating until I looked over at the screen.

Actually I think the large and small icons I mentioned is incorrect in the current software implementation, they are not present, I've attached what it says in the manual, that seems to be incorrect. I've also attached a short low quality video in a zip file that shows the fan speed varying by just altering the temperature when the Automatic Program is selected and the fan speed is just set to Medium intensity, as opposed to the fan speed being manually adjusted. The video also shows the automatic activation of the seat heating as the temperature selected varies.
