Everyone's use case and tolerance for the limitations is different. I loved my Lucid, but I hated the fact that it was anxiety inducing to take it on a trip. It wasn't the need to go 700 miles. It was the fact that charging on longer trips was so uncertain and anxiety inducing. If I did not care about driving my car and did not hate my wife's GLS 450 so much, I probably would still be driving the Lucid.

I am not anti-EV. They just don't work for my use case and I am happier with my X5.

My issue isn't with EVs. They're fine, they work for some people, that's great, I don't care.

My issue is that car companies are using EVs as a cover for some very anti consumer bs. Features as a subscription, cars as a service, tracking of consumers for data gathering, etc. Every automaker will tell you they don't want to be seen as an auto manufacturer, they want to be a tech company that happens to build cars. The reality of what they mean by that is staggering, because what they're really saying is they don't want their cars to be their product, they want you and your data to be their product. I am VERY against that.

I’ll weigh in here. I would never take our EV on a road trip, even if it’s 300 miles. Period. And that’s for three main reasons. 1) EA is spotty and uncertain. And when we had the Tesla the SC are few and far between. 2) we have young kids. There’s no reason to take the EV when we can take the X7 and dead head it or stop wherever - and whenever - we want. When the kids are asleep I’m not stopping. Rest stops trump anywhere else. 3) I need to drive 75-80 mph, and sometimes faster with the flow of traffic. I’m not slowing down for range.

Anyone who can afford a $100k EV can afford a road trip vehicle as well. And I recognize this is probably a North America-centric problem, and a few other places in the world. Europe must have chargers everywhere.

I beg to differ. We leased a 2025 i4 M50 last month and it's the perfect car for our needs. Yes, they are not for everyone but I see EVs all over my city every day so obviously they are for some people.

[QUOTE=Windshieldfarmer;31648670]And the price is competitive…something that BMW is not particularly good at doing.

Agree with this, but we went with an iX3 over the Q8 because for once the standard spec was VERY good and didn’t need optioning up with thousands of pounds of extras, amongst others:
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Driving assistant professional
  • Parking assistant

I accept that it’ll be pricier than Tesla (and wouldn’t buy one anyway) just praying BMW do this with the next one, or might look elsewhere. It would be a dumb move to make the new version lower spec IMO

Panoramic sunroof

Panoramic moonroof with openable panel? I’d love to have that option back!
