Both tie rods replaced @ 2,000 km

So I was hearing a knocking sound from the front suspension every time the car goes over small road bumps shortly after collecting my car... It wasn't bad at all and I wasn't even sure if it were a real issue.

Anyway I decided to wait until the break-in service.

The service advisor told me that both tie rods needed replacement... I'm not sure if they were bad to begin with or if I hit a pothole bad enough to screw up my tie rods... is that even possible?

Anyway these things shouldn't fail before 70k-100k km as far as I understand. The dealer did replace them for free.

Is this a common issue with G8X M cars? Should I be worried about something else?

Yep!! There’s been a service bulletin for this… has to do with having one of the two possible electric steering racks and from other posts on this forum, they get free tie rod replacements to solve this issue

So I wonder will people with non BMW HAS kits get denied warranty coverage or since there’s an SIB, it wouldn’t be an issue.

In 6000 miles, I've had the tie rods replaced twice to no avail. The knocking sound has persisted and I can actually feel it in the steering wheel.
