An incredibly well deserved WDC for Max this year in what equates to the 3rd overall best car. This has not been done in 40 years and he is the only driver to win multiple WDCs in slower cars as far as I can recall. To think, the MB, on average, was probably equal to the RB yet neither MB is even in the top 5 in the WDC.
Max, in a car that had too much downforce, compromised in many ways leading to what was only the 4th fastest car showing his skill is what pushed that car to where he ended up…and he just let Ham and the Ferraris by without racing them knowing he had the WDC locked up (and even then it took them quite a while to even get close). His skill level combined with a level of consistency the sport has not seen since Schumacher - just another level we didn’t know existed given this level hasn’t been seen since Schumacher so many years ago.

Schumi was suspected of cheating on many things and using his teammates as fodder to advance himself, Jos Verstappen,Rubens Barrichello and E irvine are a few to name. MAX has none of these luxuries now with FIA watching for anomalies like a hawk with advanced technical equipment that was lacking before.

Hamilton's name is engraved 7 times on that FIA WDC trophy.

Verstappen's name will be engraved for the 4th consecutive time on that trophy.

Fangio was 45 years when he achieved his 4th WDC title (1956). Prost was 38 years (1993). Schumacher (2001) and Hamilton (2017) were 32 years. Verstappen is 27 years (2024). Vettel was 26 years (2013).

And it ain't over yet for Hamilton and Verstappen.

I think mainly the costcap and limited windtunnel/cfd/testing times makes it much harder to get consecutive wins. Teams nowadays just can't overdevelop their problems away anymore by spending unlimited amounts of money (pre costcap there were 600 million/year budgets....)

If you were to force rank the difficulty of the WDCs based on how competitive the field is/was, and add in the other factors such as budget or budget cap, the clamp down on real hard racing, and developement / testing time - and the fact that is materially impacts the top team with huge disadvantages (and more so by repeated wins) the last 3 WDCs are some of the most difficult in history. The fact that Max won in 2021 in a slower car against a cheat MB, 2022 with a car that wasn’t even faster for most of the season, and then out in the greatest season ever seen in F1 in 2023, and then winning again in 2024 with the 3rd fastest car is one you can mark up to doing it all when the odd are stacked against you. No other driver currently in F1 is at all capable of what Max has done for the last 4 years. Only maybe Schumacher or Senna could have pulled this off and even then, I don’t know if they could have done it like Max.

Schumacher is imho legendary because he signed with a team that had been in shambles for a few years, with a slow car that was unreliable, and turned that around in an all winning team. Obviously with Todt, Brawn (who of course basically gave Mercedes/Toto a superteam) and Byrne and a bunch of engineers etc, but Schumacher played an integral role. He got free reign to choose.
Maybe Max fits a bit in that pattern, as he's very specific how he wants his car. Give him that and he delivers..

Unheard Charles Leclerc X-rated radio rant after losing Las Vegas podium to Sainz:
— Charles Leclerc lost third place to Carlos Sainz at the Las Vegas Grand Prix and vented his frustration in an explicit team radio exchange.
— Despite being told Sainz would not overtake, the Spaniard passed Leclerc, leading to these messages:
Bozzi: “Carlos has been told to not overtake but it is really close, you might be just in front. He has been told to not put you under pressure. So just take care of your tyres.”

You're a good person, outspoken passionately rooting for your main main, firmly standing up for him. You're entitled to your opinions, even if these can be bold so now and then. So it's OK that you consider that Hamilton deserved the WDC 2021 more than Verstappen, disagreeing with FIA's decisions, just as much as it's OK that others may consider it the other way around.

In Brazil, Verstappen was "Mr. Purple" and Driver Of The Day. Today Hamilton was "Mr. Purple" and Driver Of The Day. Russell and his race engineer kept a close eye on Hamilton's charge through the field, with Russell picking up the pace again in the final stint of the race to secure the race win. If Hamilton would have started on the first or second row, he would have almost certainly won this race.

It's a good thing for F1 that Hamilton continues F1 racing after this season. He's much more than just an F1 racer. Here's to hoping to enjoy a very competitive 2025 season with mainly the Mercs, McLarens, Ferraris and RBs in the mix, fighting for race wins. Hopefully Hamilton can outfox the rest of the field with his new Ferrari in several 2025 races. Or as Italians usually say to wish someone good luck or godspeed at the start of some endeavor: "In bocca al lupo" (which means "In(side) the wolf's mouth", protected).
