As is noted in the linked post, the B&W is just a setting in the amp for a phsyically different speaker system that requires different tuning to achieve the harman curve.

It is not a higher quality option for H&K that is hidden for silly reasons, which is probably why people want to turn it on and think it sounds better.

^^^To add to that, there have been a few posts of members reporting a buzzing sound after doing this tweak. And reverting was a PITA to complete. Something about having to VO code it back if memory serves me correctly.

Turning active sound off makes a decent difference in cleaner sounding music. And adding one of those plug and play amps seems to really wake the system up.

Having coded the B&W settings in both my M2 & wife's '22 X3MC, and adjusted the EQ based on some recommended settings provided on the forum, I believe it sounds noticeably better than the standard HK system. It does sound better in my M2 than the X3, but both sound better than their respective stock setup.

I have auto updates turned off in both vehicles to avoid having the sound settings, along with others (ambient lighting) reset.

That's exactly what I decided to do instead; BimmerTech Alpha 1 amp is inbound now.

Vehical order. To be honest I don’t fully understand it. But from what I can gather, it’s something to do with resetting your settings to how your car came from the factory with whatever options you had.

Gotcha. I assume this is not something you can do yourself.

I'm happy with the sound of the B&W sound profiles, so I'm just asking because I'm curious.

But also, when coding, the Bimmercode app appears to export a backup before you alter settings, that can be used to revert back to factory settings if you want. That said, I haven't tried it.
