I had my '06 Audi S4 25Quattro and I was looking at a used E46 or new E92 because the engine needed to be replaced for $13k.

Then the housing crash of 2007-2010 happened.

At that point I decided to buy a new house when the market was low. I had to sell the S4 and lease a 328i for something like $300/month, I don't quite remember, but it was cheap and I needed the money for a down payment on a new home. We would sell our townhome when the market recovered a bit and we were not so upside-down. With that in mind, I bought our current home for less than half what it's worth today and ended up breaking even on our townhome.

I love that 328i. I was actually still a very nice car and while the E46 and E92 were the nicer cars by a big mile, ultimately, I'm glad I got a new house instead.

Thank you, 328i!

Same for me. Before I bought my e92 m3 my 1st BMW was the 328i xdrive with a manual! It was so much fun I had to see what the M3 was about. Put my deposit down in June of 2010 and my model year 2011 arrived in December of 2010.
