2010 330i

Afternoon all..

I was wondering what sort of BHP the 2010 330i has? I've tried googling it only comes up with 2007-2009 cars. I even checked the BMW website and it's not even listed in their model range. Strange.

I'm asking because last night - a complete arse was harassing me in a 2010 330i saloon. He seemed the type who's either a) just rented it b)just borrowed it or c) just stolen it. I can see why some folk think we're all a bunch of tw@ts.

I rarely fall for the bait and I let people get on with it. Of course, I have the occasional 'spirited drive' - like many enthusiasts - but only for something worthwhile. I wouldn't waste my diesel on some chavved up punk mobile.
Anyways, this chap tailgated me through 30/40 zones for about 6 miles - flashing and weaving behind me. I can appreciate the guy could have been in a hurry - but there's no need to act like that! As soon as the road opened up to a 70 - I nailed it. Little did Penis know, I had just had the car fitted with a chip.

I won't be silly and say 'I left him for dead' or anything. The 330i was certainly quick - but not enough to make up the deficit he trailed me. I slowed down for the slip road. He hammers on and nearly takes a car out at the junction. what a t*t.

Would I be right in predicting about 260 ish bhp?

The theoretical mpg is something like 38mpg combined as well. In many ways they are the pic of the range, but rocking horse proverbial on the used market sadly.

Oh yeah, I was talking about the new D

EDIT: Just went to the BMW website, am I going mad, or is the 330i not listed?

All M sport manual: Coupé and convertible are listed for both 330 d and i; coupé is rated at 6.0s to 62 for d and i, whereas convertible is 6.5s (i) and 6.4s (d) - work that out!

I noticed this the other day. BMW don't seem to list the e90 330i at the moment.

It's still in the e92 / e93 section though.

Strangely the e90 330i is also missing from the configurator.

Whats going on? Surely they aren't discontinuing the best car in the range?

They ditched the 130i, perhaps the 330i is following, which will be a great shame.

Talking to the showroom last week, E90 does not get the 330I anymore - as there is no demand, everybody goes for diesel in the E90.
330I stays in the E92/3
So if you have a good 330I E90 it is best to hang on to it.

Doesn't suprise me really, everyone goes derv these days.

If you want petrol power then most opt for the 335.

Even in 2006 when I bought my E90 manual 330i new, the salesman said he'd never sold one before!!

I live in Newcastle and t 335i's - even 335d's are very rare. 318 - 320i/d's are most popular up here.

I would have thought that there was room in the range for the e90 330i and 335i.

Of course the vast majority of 3'ers on the road are 320d's. The 318d also seems to be seriously popular. I guess because it busts the company car tax rules.

I'm very happy with the 335i, but in many ways the 330i was a better car. Nicer sound, more linear and better fuel economy.

Not long after taking delivery of my 335i i drove a mate's 130i and was gutted at how much better his engine sounded.

I'm very happy with my E92 330i Coupe Auto. I've had it nearly two years now, and I bought it because I think the N52 268BHP unit is perhaps the nicest of all the BMW engines. A real classic. Of course it is not as powerful or torquey as the 335i, but it is a smoother unit, it has a much looser and free-revving top end (the 335i does not really enjoy life much over 5000rpm, whereas the 330i is oily smooth all the way to just under 7000), the 330i unit is lighter, more economical, sounds magnificent, and without a turbo I am hoping it will not result in big potential repair bills in a few years time. Also mine is a mid 2007 manufacturing build, which fortunately means that I have none of that ED nonsense (although it does cost me an extra £40 a year in road tax).

I've had the guys at Evolve remap the ECU a few months ago and this has only made the engine even nicer. Remapping NA engines does not produce dramatic results compared to turbo engines, but on my unit it gives around a 13 bhp increase to a little over 280. But more importantly it has made the engine sound even better, a little deeper and more throaty, but still super smooth, and more eager all the way through the rev range. My son-in-law has just got himself an E91 335d, and we went out early the other day to see how their straight line performance compared.

The interesting thing was that the performance of the two cars was just about identical. I couldn't pull away from him, but he couldn't pull away from me. I was in manual mode and had to keep the engine between 4500 and 7000, so this meant always exiting roundabouts in 2nd whereas the 335d would be happy with 3rd. If I got caught off guard with the revs under 3000, then the 335d would just storm past on its wave of torque (580Nm versus mine approx 350NM now after the remap). BMW 0-62 figures are 6.2secs for the 330i E92 Auto and 6.1secs for the 335d E91. So I guess the remapping on my car has sharpened my 0-62 time a little - it certainly feels like it. The 335d Touring is 160KG heavier than the E92 330i.

I think the 335d engine is great and by far the nicest diesel I have driven, but I still prefer the 330i. Let's hope BMW keep it in the range.
