What does everyone use to jack their car with?

Hey guys, this may be a simple question however at the moment I am struggling to get my car off the ground on my driveway. I have a halfords "pro" jack suitable for cars up to 3tons & on all my previous cars it hs been fine, not the case with the bmw.. The side skirt makes it to low to even get under, normally I would try & get someone to lift the wing while I put the jack under but it's proving hard now to find anyone willing..

Could anyone advise me on a jack they use & where to get from, I know they do low ones from my days of national tyres but this was some years ago & have not seen anything like in the shops.

I've got an Arcan low slung jack but they stopped making them.

Another option is to use a standard scissor style OE jack to just lift at the other jacking point to give you the clearance to get your proper jack under.

Shaun,
you need to be looking for a Low profile Jack. Loads of them around, Amazon, Fleabay, and just do a search on google for loads of hits.
Cost depends on Lift capacity and other gizmo's, but I bought one to do my lowered E46 M3 (2 Tons) for about £75.

I've got one of these and it's a quality bit of kit...

They also sell the aluminium jacks...

The pro one is definitely sturdier but it's also heavier. The pro also has the foot pedal which comes in handy when positioning the jack.

Arcan low profile aluminium, nice bit of kit but a lot heavier than you'd expect for a lightweight jack.

My halfords trolley jack isn't low enough either.

Cure > drive front wheels onto a plank of wood. Gives the car the height it needs for the jack to fit underneath

The easiest way to get a Jack under if it doesn't fit is to lift the car by the wheel arch lol

That 2.5ton aluminum one with 2 axle stands for £140 looks like great value. I've been thinking recently that i need some better jacks and stands...

I have the halfords quick pro jack. And I also have the same problem. I can just lift the wing and kick the jack under. Or if im planning ahead, I will just drive onto 4 1" bits of wood.

+1 for the drive onto a piece of wood trick!

I have also got one of them things that fit into the jacking point for the trolley jack to jack on.

I have two old off cuts of decking in the garage that I drive the car onto and use a normal trolly jack nothing special just a normal one its tight with the BMW rubber adaptor but its spot on I would love a low entry jack to save the hassle.

cheers for all the replies, I had thought about bits of wood but thought maybe in the long run its easier to just get a jack which is low enough to start with, Car is going on h&r springs in the coming weeks also, I will have a look at those sites in a sec Mob.

cheers everyone!
