Using Spare Key = Lost Engine Map?

Had to use the spare key today for the first as my missus picked up my keys by mistake in a rush to get out of the house for the school run.

Not sure if it was a combination of the wet weather and my mind playing tricks but my car seemed much less responsive as though my engine map had been lost.

Managed to swap the keys after a short while and engine did appear to have more grunt again?

Anyone else come accross this?

Could it been down to the ECU learning how you drive and when you used the spare key it thought of you as a new driver, I'd have though if it had reverted back to a standard map,you would have noticed a hiugh difference.

I might be talking bollox though

Not sure CC, was hard to tell especially in the wet that requires a slightly lighter right foot to maintain traction.

I don't think you are. A different key would not erase the map (modified or otherwise) and then revert back with the other key. To do so would mean the map is stored in the key.

There is some adaptivity in the engine (and transmission if auto) which is monitors the driving style and adapts, blah blah. Using a different key would lose those adaptive settings.

My 330d is an auto so it was probably down to that although the engine did sound harsher than normal too. Since the remap it's ran quieter and smoother until today with spare key - I'll put that down to my imagination

When i first used the spare key in mine I noticed the throttle and gearbox responsed was very different.....it took a while to learn my style of driving, oh and had to reprogram all my iDrive settings in again for the second key.
