Bad dealer experience

Recently bought an m2 and had a bad experience. Can I post about the bad experience I had at the dealership and name the dealer and employees by name? Any forum rules against it?

If there aren't any rules against it I would still advise against being so specific out of respect no matter how badly they treated you. Maybe just mention the state and general region the dealer is in and give us a back story? If their acts are indeed egregious then some specifics may be warranted

You don't owe anyone anything, personally naming individuals might not be entirely appropriate but that's up to you. Let it rip

Everything from my car still being on shipping blocks to then being ignored and put on hold for hours combined. The ca throwing the key at the carbon fiber interior trim instead of just setting the key down in the cup holder he threw it
I would love to write out my complete experience so other people don’t go thru the same thing at this location

Let us know the details. Dealers have to remember that there are consequences to their actions. Let er rip!

Send a formal letter/email to the Gen Manager/Sr Manager. Address it - all issues - in a polished and professional way. Give them 5 days to respond.

Call and verify the letter or email is with that person. If no response-- Be utterly specific citing you attempted to settle and gain a response personally in mail or email to attempt to gain satisfaction before leaving them a SCATHING review in public here.

Notify the regional rep from BMW as well. Sorry such an experience occurs now in 2023. As if dealers in general are any better. Appears not to be the case where you are.

Or at least the dealership and CA's initials.

As to shipping blocks being left in the springs, it is not a complete uncommon occurrence for any manufacturer. It happens from BMW to Porsche to Ford (I am aware of at least these three) and I am sure just about every other manufacturer.

The shipping blocks weren’t as big of a deal as them not doing anything about all of the other issues and ignoring me for 3 weeks now. Nobody calls back and I’m put on a permanent hold as soon I ask for a manager

I think their account of the events would be an interesting read.

It sounds like you need a space to vent, and either feel vindicated in your feelings, or have some people here say "hey, that actually doesn't seem like a big deal." I'm a CA, and I say go ahead and spill the beans here.

I've done stupid things before. I've dropped the ball big time. I've said things that were wrong that I thought were right. I've also had customers that were completely wrong about things, got upset over things that were out of my control and blamed me, and even customers that have told complete lies about me under oath.

There's two sides to every story. Let's here it. And this is probably a much better forum than a Google review.

Name and shame them . No dealership is going to sue you for slander, as it would open them up to more liability. They just don’t have the law on their side. You can speak freely and loudly about your experiences. Depending on how bad the experience was you can also escalate it to your state’s licensing body. There are some screws you can turn if you have been legitimately wronged. I love cars and have bought many, and had a couple of terrible experiences, and I have had to spank dealers hard. It’s worked out in my favor every time.

Spill the tea. What happened?

I'm always a bit leery about posting specifics regarding a bad dealer encounter.

Certainly I have had them but I'm concerned that it could result in a civil legal issue. Slander. Liable. I don't know. Given the high cost of legal help I don't want to find out.

Really without any proof -- and it is in most areas illegal to record/film someone without permission -- it is just you claiming that what happened happened.

You don’t have to be worried about that, as long as you don’t make up stuff, and just speak about it as your opinion. Just say “The following views that I express are my own opinion and represent what I interpreted from my experiences.” Done. You are protected. The burden of proof to sue someone for slander or libel is actually pretty high, and the accuser has to show proof that they intentially lied to misrepresented to cause harm. It’s just not going to happen.

I’ve had so many bad dealer experiences, for the most part they just don’t care. Sometimes I’ll write a clear statement of the events as a review and I’ll get a call from them to take it down, but I generally ignore.

It can be cathartic to vent.

Thanks for that. I'm not a lawyer so I tend to err on the side of caution.

In the past, before my BMW cars, have been asked about some dealers I have used and my SOP is to either offer I'd use the dealer/service department again or I would not use the dealer/service department again.

Still on a waiting list and I can't even get my CA to return my calls or emails. Getting frustrated dealing with BMW, are they not interested in selling cars?

That would be an instant dealbreaker for me. Find another dealer who gives a shit, really.

Of course, there are plenty of BMW dealers in New England, so they have to compete with each other. If anything, they are kinda pushy. Is NC not like that?
