Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I drove to work today (I'm a BMW Client Advisor). I came out later to see a puddle of green coolant around my tire and all over my front bumper. Something wasn't right. I got my car checked in to service and soon afterwards got a video showing a silver dollar sized rock had fallen out of my front bumper by the passenger auxiliary radiator. A rock punctured my front radiator. It will not be covered by warranty. The bill is almost $1,600 to replace the radiator. I have 835 miles onmy M2. I drive 90% interstate to work every day. I do t tailgate or speed. I feel like this is an obvious design flaw by BMW. Who is going to fix this design flaw? Edit: I will add the links to all the websites we discussed up here for a quick reference. https://www.mishimoto.com/performanc...3-m4-2021.html https://www.mishimoto.com/performanc...3-m4-2021.html https://www.mishimoto.com/performanc...3-m4-2021.html https://www.mishimoto.com/bmw-g80-m3...late-2021.html https://csfrace.com/new-csf-high-per...eat-exchanger/ https://www.zunsport.com/us/BMW?product_id=7328 https://www.zunsport.com/us/BMW?product_id=7331 https://www.stradaledesign.com/g87-m...install-mounts https://www.radiatorgrillstore.com/p...esh-protection |

damn they won't even warranty it for one of their own?
this is concerning... does it have the plastic overprotection we've seen on some of the manuals? there's this thread and others I'm sure that have similar issues... getting me nervous about taking delivery of my MY24 Last edited by clydefrog; 09-14-2023 at 10:45 PM.. |

So sorry to read this man…
Stories like this are frightening. Why would this happen? How can BMW not have driven this car in other parts of the world outside Europe (no rocks in Europe)? We are buying an European car, sure. But designed for the world, or so we think. Built in freaking Mexico… It’s either an oversight for markets outside Europe or just another push to electrics… |

Sorry to hear this
How come the radiator grille store doesn’t have the side grilles, only the middle one?

I'm sure I will not be the only one. Yes, the plastic "overprotection" was in place, but obviously not good enough to protect. I dont know if this is the normal price or if this is my employee cost for parts and labor. I'll talk to management tomorrow and see what happens. FML |

This is what insurance is for, though. You have comprehensive, right?

Exactly regarding insurance...it will wind up costing you more by going through insurance for this after deductible and premium increase. |

I just replaced my windshield and will have no premium increase. Premiums only go up if it’s your fault. I thought it was the same in the USA. |

Windshields are different. In Florida, that is civered by State law with no increase (special/specific provision). Replacing a radiator from a rock, that would be a "general" claim wherein your deductible would be in play and ultimately your premium would be affected. |

Definitely not in UK for example my Hubby’s car was parked and some muppet drove into his car whilst parking and he needed a whole new door. Hubby is on my car to drive on my annual renewal they already knew about his claim and MY annual insurance increased because of this claim !!!! I was not a happy 🐰

In the US a flying object would typically be a comprehensive claim and will not affect your rates. Running over an object would be a collision claim and typically will affect your rates.
Some companies have “accident forgiveness” if you have been with them a while but I don’t think I would cash that in on a $1,600 claim. In this case it’s most likely comprehensive but read through your contract. They are generally very easy to read because they list exclusions. Basically if it’s not excluded then it’s included. I’m not an insurance agent or a lawyer. I’m just saying this to encourage you to explore all options before going down a specific path. I hope this helps.

Fix it yourself, the aux cooler is like 300-350 dollars and you need some bmw coolant. Replacement is super easy and shouldnt take more than hour start to finish

damn this blows. I see some pretty decent solutions for good looking mesh screens to put in the center part of the bumper opening..I wonder if getting another one to cut and fit in the 2 outside portions would work, as well?
