Alright Big shiny rotor boys and girls, i got another detailing doozy for you. Sorry for length 🤓. Proceed at your own risk, because im no chemist but i have done this on the 2024 m240i. So apparently, if you mix 1/3 of a cup of baking soda into a full size spray bottle of water (1000ml), you get a cheap rust inhibitor that can then be used to preserve the surface of your rotors during cleaning and keep them from getting super rusty. So i have been working on the technique because you will still get some light oxidation if water sits on the rotor to long. I discovered i dont even need wheel cleaner on the black wheels since i clean them so often, just using koch chemie green star and soap. What i have been doing is cleaning one wheel at a time, i will pretreat the rotor with the solution ahead of time, just long enough for it to dry, light misting. Finish the wheel, rinse it off, then treat the rotor again and move to next wheel. If you could avoid getting the rotor wet after this point, like during washing the car, would probly not oxidize at all but even if you do wet again the oxidation will be far lighter than untreated. So good luck!! Heres to giant shiny rotors and clean black rims!! P.S. this solution does generate a gas so do not store in a sealed bottle or it will probly explode.

Just drive the car, even ant a fairly low speed, and apply the brakes after cleaning.
It will wipe off any oxidation and the heat will evaporate off any moisture.

Yup. That’s what I do. I don’t even leave my driveway.

Problem i was having with that was the rust scraping off and blowing all over my fresh clean wheels. Only other solution i found for my zealous obsession for cleanliness was carbon ceramics and i aint paying for that. 🤣😂

Here’s mine cleaned, then driven forwards and backwards about 150 ft (about a third of my driveway’s length). There’s still a little ring of rust on the outmost section of the rotors, so next time I’ll probably use a larger section of my driveway. Wheels are pristine. FWIW, I have the ISweep 1500 pads installed.

Just installed PoeerStop Z23 pads. I have the larger brakes on my M240i. Part numbers 1868 and 2220. Haven’t driven on them much yet but after bedding them in, so far so good. Zero noise, feels smoother, but also a bit less grabby which I prefer. Especially when transitioning to / from a complete stop. Well priced also.

Do you get any noise / light clunking when first moving the car (forward / reverse) after it has been sitting parked and cooled down?

I am not sure if it's just the fronts, but have been experiencing this since the Z23 pads were swapped in. Might need the shop to take another look at it.

Yes sir. It’s the front pads shifting since they do not have the adhesive like the OEM pads do. It’s only when I first back out of the garage. From my research it’s common and nothing to worry about.

Thanks for confirming. I had a feeling that’s what it was. Similar experience with putting ceramic pads in my GTI. But was hoping that wouldn’t be the case here.
