Hi All,

I have been going back and forth on this and was hoping to ask more experienced people this question.

When buying aftermarket wheels, why not keep OEM wheel sizes (9.5 and 10.5) and tires (275 and 285) and just adjust the offset? Is there a real noticeable benefit with going 10" in the front and 11" in the rears (285 and 305)?

One benefit in keeping OEM sizes is the cost of tires, right? If not tracking, though driving spirited, would it be OK to keep these sizes or size up?

I have no tracking plans. I also dont believe the 285 width is truly enough for this car.

I kept the 9.5 up front but in a 20" with a 275/30/20. For traction, especially if any power increase is planned (or with the 8AT), I would say 305 or 315 is a must. Keeping stock power, I would still want 305s in the rear. With these sizes, 11" width is required.

If you shop around, I dont think the price for a 285/30/20 is that much cheaper than a 305/30/20.

Thanks for the reply...yeah, I planned on keeping stock power and was going to go with the auto. I think alot of people agree with you on the rear size as I have seen many go for 305s. I was not sure if that was just for look or for getting additional traction, thanks again!

A 9.5 is reasonably narrow for a 275, it will have much more sidewall support on a 10 or 10.5 and will improve grip.

But doesn’t the car come stock with 275 width tires on the front 9.5” wheel? I would have thought increasong the width of the wheel you would also want to increase the width of the tire.

Tires have a width range. This is a BMW star spec 275, a 9.5 inch rim is in the lower half of its range. It would have more grip on a wider wheel.

Would a 315 fit on the stock rear wheel with no spacer? It’s not lowered.
If a spacer is required, what size would you recommend?

The recommended wheel size for a 315/30/20 is 10.5 to 11.5 wide. You might have an issue with the tire being 27.5 inches tall if you stick with the stock size fronts as they are 26.6 inches tall. There should be enough clearance width wise in the rear though.
