iDrive Satnav with Speed Cameras?

Hi,

Dave_3 kindly pointed out the possibility of the above in another thread. Have many people in the UK got/done this?

Thanks

Paul

Check this out ...

http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/neroway.htm

and also look in the Audio section on this Forum.

I also subscribed to the SCDB website and downloaded ALL known cameras for Europe http://www.scdb.info/en/

I don't really care that it is not absolutely up to date after you burn it to a DVD, but you can referesh your Database every now and again and burn a new DVD.

Great to have on when you are driving in a new area/country.

For the 9Euros SCDB subscription, and a few blank DVDs it is WELL worth it.

I have the POI files from Jan 07 ready to go. I'll probably update to the latest data soon. If you can PM me with an email address I will pass them on. All you need to do is copy your disc to an iso, overwrite the files to your 'image' and burn to disc (slow speed on DVD +RW is best)

Cheers for that nfs. I haven't got the car yet though (Ordering later hopefully)

Whilst we're on the subject of the sat nav... does any one know:

How often is the disc updated?
and
Do you have to pay to get it updated?

Thanks

I'm in same position as rjs. I presume the camera database doesn't cause a 'bleep' so you have to keep an eye on the nav to spot where they are?

I suppose you can keep your eye on it though, is that what you do?

Yes.

You soon get accustomed to spotting an upcoming camera out of the corner of your eye.

Especially good when you are in a new area. Good to be pre-warned.

Does this work for us poor folks with Business Navigation?

There seem to be about 2 nav updates per year.

You get no update support, which is a disgrace and BMW expect you to pay £300 for a new disc if you want a newer map.

This was particularly shoddy in my case because the disc that was available when my car was new did not have postcode search support.

The one before it did - and the one after it - but it was left of my disc 'by mistake'.

I would never suggest such a thing, but one option for upgrades would be to borrow newer discs - rip them to ISO and burn your own copy.

The attached zip includes Jan 07 speed camera data.

When I get a chance I will update to April 07 and post the newer files.

Meanwhile, just make an ISO of your disc and using an ISO editor (I use power iso) add the files following the instructions here:

http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/imageway.htm

You need to burn your copy on slow speed (4x max) and ideally use a DVD+RW

That seems more than a little bit tight to me. If I'm shelling out the best part of 2K on an overpriced navigation system, the least I would expect is an annual update! What would it cost them? £1 for a DVD & postage?!

You can't even buy them on the cheap via Ebay. Maybe I should book a test drive once a year just so I can rip the Nav DVD

There's an ISO image on BitTorrent though, is the just one disc for europe? Not sure if it's a UK image.

Query Re: Speed Camera Data

The 335i I drove the other day had a Road Angel Installed. This also came with info about mobile camera locations. (I know it can't predict exacly where they always are but there are several locations near me where they like to sit)

Does the data you use for this disk also come with this information?

The 2007-1 torrent for Europe does indeed cover the UK & it works fine!

The image holds data for the complete nav DVD, which covers mainland Europe & the UK.

I haventt yet come across a 2007-2 torrent, but it'll be available soon, I'm sure!

I download my poi's from pocketgps.co.uk

They have all current camera data including gatso, specs, mobiles and redlight.

The locations are added by users, I don't know if it is any better or worse than road angel data.

I've got the latest Satnav DVD and even then the postcode thing is not 100% implemented - it doesn't let you input the full postcode, just 75% of it before guessing where you want to go. Which is a bit half-hearted.

My Jag would let you enter the full postcode directly. Very useful. Also grew used to the Nav Screen always displaying the name of the street you were on at the bottom of the screen. Have to squint at the iDrive map and try and guess which street I am on now by quickly looking for those little triangles

Postcode support was completely missing from the discs supplied during the second half of 2006 (06 02 disc).

It was on the earlier disc and it is on the 07 01 disc currently supplied.

Postcode support when it is available is only for the first 4 digits though.
