M2 good daily?
I am really liking the 2024 M2 and seriously thinking of putting in an order and getting one. I currently have 2019 330i but I really would like something with more punch and I really miss driving a manual. The M2 seems to fit all that and the price is right. My concern is that if its going to be a good daily? Truth be told, I work from home but do drive into the office once to sometimes twice a week. I have a son that plays baseball so I do take him to practices and games. I also surf from time to time but I ride a short board so its really not a issue or could always get roof racks, if I really needed to carry something larger. My wife has an X3 so if and when we do a long road trip we normally take her car. But on the weekends its mostly me driving the family around. With that being said would the M2 work for me?

It's a great daily driver, in my opinion. It's sharp and capable, but also handles shitty roads really well.
You probably don't want the carbon bucket seats though, if you're concerned about it being a "good daily." |

its pretty stiff. i daily my m340. my m2 has the buckets and I love them for driving, but I would not want to daily them.
the m2 itself is pretty stiff on the suspension. In Michigan, I am happy I rock the M340 during the week and commute and save the m2 for the weekends. the M2 is more firm in its standard (comfort) mode than the m340 is in sport +.

many of us daily them, myself included. wife and i do ski weekends including 2 sets of skis, poles, bootbags, and luggage all in the M2 (or on the roof). its been on a number of rutty roads and bad parking lots and been fine so far.
back seat is the only "issue" and that depends on your family's physical size, honestly. i am 6'2 and my wife is 6', if your family is the same size 1) absolutely order the carbon roof and 2) backseat will be a tough squeeze with headroom. ride is firm. gas mileage sucks. but god is it fun. i can see myself upgrading to an M3 before end of production simply to accommodate growing family. |

Wife is 5'3" and I am 5'9" and our son is a only child....so our family isn't growing anymore. Thought about the M3 but I see the M2 a better buy for the cost. Carbon roof is a good call

if you have a kid, get 4 doors. a rear facing seat in the back of a coupe would be a nightmare. also the m2 rear is not that big. so even if kid is forward facing, thier legs could be pressed against the seat. M2 is not large by any means

My 5YO is about 55lbs and 50", yes he's a big boy. I'm 6ft and my wife about 5'6. We have a Diono front facing (very compact) and he's tight in there if my wife wants to be comfortable. Getting in and out is easy enough. Very doable but for long drives, I would expect some complaining from the kids or your wife. M2 is my daily and it's definitely a stiff ride but not enough to complain on back pain. Family car is an Alfa SQV. |

All four of us fit comfortably in the car and the kids have not complained yet about leg room. It helps that my wife can scoot her seat up a bit to make some room for the kids in the back, and now that I am driving a manual I am sitting a little closer up. To me it is more annoying to deal with the 2 door in-and-out logistics than leg room being an issue. Fast forward 3 to 5 years from now and leg room will become more of a problem but we will also be getting close to having to get a 3rd vehicle for a newly licensed driver in the home. Prior to pulling the trigger on the M2 I did so much math because that's how I make decisions. One path I went with was breaking down how many total miles we have been driving a year as a family which totaled 20K per year. The SUV was getting 15K a year, the sports car getting 5K. Within those 5K miles a year with the sports car there was maybe 200 to 300 miles a year where I was really missing having a 2nd practical vehicle. For example, there were some times where the SUV was not available and I had to use the sports car for carting a bunch of kids around to activities, take a road trip, drive in crap weather, etc. The enjoyment of having the sports car far outweighed the annoyance of those 200 to 300 miles a year where an SUV would have been better. Now we all know that life can change...get a new job with a long commute, kids start getting really tall, and so on. If it becomes too big of a pain then I will just get a 3rd vehicle which I will need at some point with my kids eventually getting their drivers licenses.

JMcLellan - Being an accountant myself, I really appreciate the math break down. On average, i would say 5 days out of the week its me or one other person (son or wife) in the car. And if we go out to dinner or lunch as a family and i drive, we dont travel more more than 15 min and maybe worse case 30 minutes. If we do longer family trips to Santa Barbra or LA for a few days, its not longer then a few hours. But I was also looking at the M3 but I would be paying $12K to $15K more just for extra leg space in the back that wouldn't be for me. Yes that is a bit selfish but in general isn't a sports car kind of selfish. HAHA

My wife wanted a new car. Her requirements were “no mom cars” and BMW. My requirements were no boring cars. So the M2 fit the bill nicely.
She still thinks it’s a little too bumpy and the back seat is a little cramped if your kids are teens like mine. But we have other cars for family trips. She drives it 3 days week and really loves it. I’d say go for it and don’t look back. It’s such a good car. |

I have a Jeep as the SUV go anywhere vehicle and the M2.
I have had 4 adults 6'1", 6'0", 5'10", 5'4" to go to/from dinner because everyone wanted to go on the M2, even though I tried to talk them out of it. I'm 6'0" and rode in the back behind my 5'10" son who was driving. Leg room space is immense for the size of the M2. No concern at all. More importantly foot space is amazing. The G87 has the same wheelbase as the 2nd generation M5 E34! Head room is OK for those up to 5'10" For me, I had to crank my head to the side a bit and it was still rubbing on the roof. I'd say I could do 45 min max back there, then I'd be annoyed. Getting in an out back seat: There is no elegant way to do it. It is a bit of pain getting in and out. Trunk space is sufficient even though I have a mini spare tire back there. Would I use it as a only car? Yes, but I'd rent a car for long family trips. Which is what I do anyway. I don't take my cars more than 150 miles or so away. I like rentals for that. If it breaks down, or has any issues, you call Avis and Hertz and let them deal with it. Stress free.

Really appreciate everyone's input. was also wondering what are peoples thoughts on Zandvoort Blue vs Brooklyn Grey? I like the BG but i see it more and more on other cars....ZB looks good and is much different from anything else currently on the road. But I have not seen it in person and am not sure if its a bit 'dainty'

Seeing everyone’s height and weight stats lol. OP, I think you made your decision. Get the M2 if you already have an X3.

I am next on the list at my dealer and just waiting for the 2025 MY and Voodoo Blue. What's not to love about a 475hp, RWD car that comes with a stick and is also pretty comfortable? Feels like the perfect car at a great price, right?? And yet . . . I have this nagging voice in my head saying, "is this really the right car for the kind of driving I'll be doing 98% of the time? Do I really want to deal with the poor gas mileage and high maintenance costs for a car that is far more powerful than I need for most of my driving? Is almost 500hp worth the trade-off for a heavy car with below-average steering and shifter feel?" Practicality isn't a concern for me since I have a bigger car for snow, trips to the mountains, etc. So, I keep thinking, "why not just buy a lightly used Cayman S for a similar price and have a better overall driving experience?" Sure, it doesn't have a backseat (don't care) and doesn't have as much power, but do I really need THAT MUCH POWER? Would a smaller, lighter Cayman that I can actually stomp on the gas be more fun to drive to work?? Hell, why not an Integra Type S??? Every journalist seems to adore that car, even if it lacks the luxury and prestige of an M-car. I don't know. I'm just a tortured soul working through my feelings and my wife is sick of hearing me talk about it, so here I am, ranting like an indecisive lunatic. |

It’s a 2 seater, they’re all like that though. If you’re constantly putting kids in and out I wouldn’t recommend, but I need to put my kids back there maybe once a week and it’s fine for me. Every day? I’d be getting a 4 door. It’s an excellent daily driver and with proper snow tires it’s done great in the winter so far. Highly recommend if it’s your personal daily driver with some occasional family needs. Super fun sports car driving alone, still a very comfortable and safe road car when driving the family around occasionally. As a full time family vehicle? Absolutely not. Get a 4 door with more trunk/storage space. |

My wife has an X3MC so if the 3 of us go anywhere, it's in her car. I upgraded from a 330e and the back seat was pretty tight for my son when he was only 5'6" - 5'7" (long legs and size 13 shoes). |
