That’s why a 718 weighs 3000 lbs.

Shorter wheelbase is a more agile car. New GT4 are not made anymore.

i wish i had ordered a new GT4.

I was also looking up some weight reduction threads for the GT350R, and it seems like it can cut ~400lbs by replacing all panels with CF, and that costs $60k.

I guess the M2 can do an interior strip, and some CF parts, but you are right, that it will be hard to live with. Which is also why I am wondering how Porsche manages to do it, while staying livable.

Such a silly, argument. A Cayman GT4 stickers for $112,000, and dealers add $15-20k on top of that. So, DOUBLE the price of a base M2.

Zero21 weighed his M2 ... 3735 lbs with a 6MT. Not the BMW REPORTED 3814.

Carbon seats save 24 lbs, lithium battery saves 38 lbs, Apex wheels will save you 30+ lbs.

Pretty easy.

And please do your research. Watch the PhDPerformance review on this forum. THEN, tell me that what you are saying about weight has any credibility at all.

Thank you.

Like I said, I am not bashing the M2. I did watch the PhDPerformance review from the weekend and when he first got the M2.

I was comparing a Cayman GT4 to a GT350R, by the way, if you read my post properly before writing out a response. The reason I compared those two are because they are both 'track' orientated cars that I'd like to buy. I was not comparing it to an M2 LOL. I was just technically curious why the M2 weighs quite a bit more than Caymans in general.

Some carbon seats, new battery, and new wheels is barely any weight loss in my opinion. As I said in my post, the way for the GT350R to lose ~400lbs is to change all body parts to CF, so I'd assume the M2 will do something drastic to get to Cayman levels in weight.

People keep saying everyone wants a back seat. Who buys a coupe hoping it has a back seat? I really doubt sales would dip that much if it didn't. No one is buying a small track focused sports coupe to put their friends in the back 😆

A few of us have kids and as a restaurant owner I really appreciate the fold down seats for supply runs.

Most people! Don’t kid yourself! If things like back seats, trunk space, usability, etc. didn’t matter, you would all be in Cayman’s and 911’s…..

….but you’re not!!

I don't even understand this lol.
Why not have a work van or something?

How much is a new 911?
What size turbo is on a Cayman?
How long will it take to get a Porsche and how much mark up are you paying?
And don't come talking about used because that's not what we're talking about here at all

I could care less about back seat usability etc. That's what the daily driver is for.

I've already done the turbo four. For years lol. So unless it's the GTS I don't want it. Now we're at $95K base. Cheapest 911 is $114. Both are a bit away from $62 base.

Because I don’t want a work van, I do a Costco run once a week and can fit everything I need in my E46 or Model 3 or Golf R and will in my M2. The aforementioned vehicles I prefer to a “work van” which would be a complete waste for my needs, gas sucker and a bitch to park in Brooklyn. Any other advice for me?

There's a lot that can be done without spending $60k. For instance, I removed >150lbs by removing rear seats, rear door cards & rear speakers, carpet and sound deadening on my E92 track car. Small change in driving experience/NVH as there's a cage in back anyways. Front still retains carpeting, iDrive, AC/Heat etc etc. Just can't look backwards my car has lost a lot more weight since then but I shaved about 400lbs without any carbon body panels. Lithium battery, Xpipe + Akra titanium muffler was another 100+ lbs. Just a long process but really not that expensive when you see people spending $5k+ on wheels in comparison.

Don't care of the actual HP number, I just hope it doesn't "feel" detuned like the M2C. The top end of the F87 M2C really felt detuned and held back.

It might weight the same as the M4 but it seem like to have the exact same power if you add the price delta that make a really interesting package.

The GT350R has carbon fiber wheels, no AC, no Nav, I think no speakers, no back seats and still weighs so much

That’s the earlier model GT350R. The later model years added all of that back (AC, nav, speakers etc). I recently bought one last fall instead of waiting for the M2.

Think the M2 will be a good performance bargain and the future models will improve upon that further but I wasn’t wild about the way it looked.

Can’t go wrong w either vehicle tho

Slight color correction in the video to show the cars "true" color on video. In person it's not nearly as orange as in most pictures/videos online. In the sun you see a bit of orange, but inside or in the shade it's a deep vivid red.

The M2 is the best selling M. So obviously I'm not alone.

Also my default assumption is that BMW knows more about selling cars than I do. If there was a massive untapped market, they would have designed a car for it. Instead, they use the Mini brand for the lower end and partner with Toyota for the Supra.

How is it? I recently discovered that I can get a used one for around 60-80k. I was actually comparing it with the 982 Cayman GT4, not the M2. Is the mustang interior as bad as they say?

I think I like it more than the GT4 because I feel like the GT350R provides more fun on the regular streets, even when you are not bashing it. Plus I like the 8250 rpm V8.

Porsche builds their cars from the group up with weight in mind. They don’t share a platform with a lesser car and therefore are purpose built sports cars. My 718 Boxster GTS weighs 10lbs less than a 718 Cayman GTS.

M3/M4 use of auto lightweight aluminum and reinforced carbon fiber plastic to reduce weight on the panels and so forth. My 2020 M4 comp is right under 3600lbs.. My 2020 M2C is over 3600lbs.. you can feel the trunk the hood the doors are heavier.
