The Exhaust button opens a valve that allows some of the exhaust to bypass the muffler. You cannot change that with coding.

The "fake sound" you referred to is called Active Sound Design. ASD is piped in through the speakers and can be coded out with Bimmercode. That's what I did.

I think so, but it does sound cooler with ASD active. I just know the cool sounds are fake, so I would rather have them off.

Nice, I'm gonna code some other stuff so might as well give it a shot

My understanding is that you can’t code it off still, and it certainly doesn’t work for me. Glad it works for you but I don’t understand why it would, hence my question, to make sure you were able to confirm when you push the button (especially in Sport) if the sound inside the car doesn’t change at all anymore.
Since I coded out ASD I cannot hear any artificial sound coming in through the speakers. I was surprised in how much sound came through ASD before I coded it out. It is not nearly as fun sounding anymore, but I prefer nothing artificial.

As far as pushing the exhaust button, or putting it in sport mode, yes, the exhaust gets louder, and you can hear the difference inside the cabin. That is the actual exhaust sound that comes from outside the car.

What is your source saying that ASD cannot be coded out? I haven't seen that anywhere.

Seems like he is talking about coding out the functioning of the valve button

I’ll double check next week thanks for confirming it works.
I started reading about this. it looks like there is a lot of controversy over exactly what the exhaust button does. I was under the impression it just opened the exhaust valve. It looks like it might make the ASD louder too. Now I don't know. I know the exhaust volume is quieter inside. Maybe it is still coming through a little bit.

I think the only way to know is for me to find the ASD module and unplug it. That might be the next step. It's obvious that BMW is trying their best to keep quiet on exactly how much sound comes from ASD and how to control it.

In Efficient (quietest mode), with the M sound OFF, make sure windows are up and you’re quiet inside. Push the exhaust button. If you hear ANY difference, it’s the ASD.

The exhaust button does nothing to the actual exhaust when in Efficient, but it does alter the sound inside the cabin.

The button does open the exhaust flaps in Sport and Sport+ though.

Official data is non-existent as you mentioned. But we’ve cracked it anecdotally. Let us know if you don’t hear any difference in Efficient (can be done while parked idling).
When I push the exhaust button in efficient it gets louder. I assumed this was the exhaust valve opening.

Does that mean someone standing outside by the exhaust cannot hear a difference when the button is pushed in comfort mode?

I feel like I should already know these things as a client advisor. Sorry for any confusion or misleading information earlier.

I’m waiting for someone to make a wire harness that deletes the ASD like I had installed on my OG M2

The fake sound is identical to that in the F87. I removed mine with a bypass relay, but since then a variety of tuning systems also work.

It is fake, and it's hard to know what your engine and car are doing when fake noises spurge out of the speakers.

Removing it was one of the first things I did when I got my F87. It was immediately noticeable.

Stealth Xpel PPF was installed last week and I just had my HRE body kit installed by my dealer today. I went with the smaller spoiler and I think it's a perfect fit. Overall I'm very happy with the PPF and carbon bits. Now it's time to drive drive drive!

Looks great. Doing many similar the week of pick up as well. Though probably waiting on the break in service before doing the mid. Which one did you opt for?

Spent a little time researching available intakes to take my mind off the wait time of the work being done to the car (I love weekends and holidays but this is just going to add extended wait time for completion of the work being done).
