I disagree but I hope neither of us, or anyone on this forum, has to find out first hand.

RIP, I should have ordered sooner. Might have to go with the Turner one instead depending on how delayed the Mishi is.

Checked the underside of my M2 which has just 320 miles on the dash and I can see a decent amount of fins already being bent from pebbles and other shit on the road. Might be time to try and find a Mishi to buy, I think I'd rather take the chance of a pebble doing some James Bond shit through one of the holes and contacting the oil cooler for the added peace of mind that my engine (probably) won't blow up if the underside ends up scraping something on the road and I'll probably purchase a Zunsport lower grille piece to protect the lower front bumper area. Never had issues with my Turner on the F87 (other than the absolutely terrible install process) and it had massive holes in the oil cooler area for airflow, most of the rocks hit the raised front part I'm guessing.

Whatever you do, don't drive in San Diego, our roads look like they're straight out of Afghanistan, even in La Jolla (nicest part)

Not that I see a reason you'd go thousands of miles south to get to another Canadian province but in case you ever decide to visit lol

Hopefully for you they use the 70% of current value - not your purchase price (assuming you want them to total it) as it likely depreciated right after you drove off the lot and they can't use sales taxes, fees or other add-ons to set value.

Good luck. Also, good to hear covering under comprehensive.

at a certain point, BMW is going to make a solution just to cash in on this now-lucrative secondary market. every G8X in the country is going to have a skid soon

I contacted Mishimoto directly today and they said up to 12 weeks national back order. I don’t think Zunsports in stock either. Turner is $$ and also has some big holes. I think I would screw some mesh over those big ole holes

Makes a good argument for leasing. Let BMW deal with insurance claim on carfax and diminished value.

You joke about this, but I have seen a couple of aftermarket carbon fiber skid plate/oil cooler protectors.

the aftermarket, both what is available and where it is priced, is a reflection of the owner's group desire and ability to pay. which is why i am always willing to push back on M tax pricing publicly when vendors will listen

This is frustrating that why wouldn't they have something on the oil cooler
The manual m2 comes with a mesh, the auto has a transmission cooler in front and doesn't have the mesh for whatever reason. You can buy the mesh from the dealer and put it on with some zip ties.

OP, please reach out to Mishimoto and have them send you one for free for all of the advertisement. I'm thinking they are going to get a bunch or orders within the next week. I'm legit going to email them telling them about this thread and that they should just send you one.
Very good idea and a very nice gesture man.

The sad part is that these incidents are preventable to an extent had not been for the bean counters at BMW. Absence of protection is not even a styling cue IMHO.

Obviously it is up to us to fend for ourselves, the factory has been successful in placing the onus on the owners, so why would they pivot from that now, there’s no regulatory body forcing them to (look how vigorously the industry fought the airbag recalls where people actually died).

I think the population of G8x’s is rather small, and incidents like this won’t amount to a blip in the statistics. Unless there’s risk in loss of life or enough serious injuries as a result, I doubt the NHTSA would even investigate.

Meanwhile, owners of these vehicles will suffer, besides having to remedy with after-market parts, I would imagine our G’s will get rate adjusted by insurance carriers once they have enough loss experience to look back upon.

Move aside bean counters, I think it’s fair to say that most, if not all, of us would happily fork over a few more bills to BMW for a more “complete” package. We should be able to enjoy the G without thinking how to prevent starving the engine.

Ordered mine on Monday...scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Friday). Not bad from UK.

(But it does now appear it's out of stock)

After watching this I wouldn't get the Zunsport if that's what you're planinng on getting. It's nothing special, you can do this yourself with some aluminum grill mesh and just extend the end over to the two washer screws on either side and then use some self-tapping screws into the plastic around the perimeter of the oil cooler. You should be able to DIY for around $20~25 which is dirt cheap.
