I was doing some additional research for my next track platform a few years down the road. On the surface, the C8 looks great, but that transmission replacement cost seriously concerns me. It's not nearly as proofed out as the ZF 8HP is. It's also significantly more expensive than the engine cost which is alarming.
I've been a Corvette guy since I was a kid, have owned a couple & currently own a 2011 Callaway SC652 Carbon Edition Z06. I've also owned many GM performance cars (Camaros, TransAms, etc.). Why I have no interest in the C8 is GM's history of not acknowledging nor fixing known problems. In fact, they go out of their way to deny the problems exist. This occurred with the LS7 valve guide issue, where 2nd, 3rd, 4th owners are still experiencing this issue when they pick up a low-mileage garage queen that was never revved past 3k rpms.

The C8 is now in it's 5th model year and there are still issues with the DCT on brand new '24s.

I'm fairly new to BMW, buying my first in 2022. My 330e was completely trouble-free for 31k miles before I traded it in. I did have a very poor dealership experience where the tech destroyed my tire and TPMS while dismounting the tire & then the shop foreman refused to take responsibility for it & tried to charge me 200% mark up for a new tire & new TPMS. There's another dealership 20 miles further that I used for the break-in service on my M2 and had a good experience. So I'll continue to use them for maintenance and service.

There's not a Chevy dealer anywhere close that I would let touch my Corvette, so that is the other issue with GM and US brands.

This goes beyond just the American brands. The Land Rover people are clueless too. I have a 2020 Discovery TD6 I bought for my mom. It gets a new fuel filter at every oil change which I do myself because the dealer charges a fortune for an $85 part and they use the crappy Delphi part vs. the available Mahle version (cutaway video online showed me the way). Anyway, I explicitly tell them not to change it every time. One time they changed it anyway and I later found out they broke the little metal spring clip on the sensor that plugs into the bottom. Thankfully, it still fits snug.

Then, I just went to change it out before taking it in for the oil change (they do those because I get 5 of them for $750), and I see fuel all over the top of it and the push tab to release one of the lines is broken because they must have tried to change it by pulling on it rather than pushing. Thankfully, it's still a tight seat once seated properly and the spilled fuel must have come from one of the lines they didn't screw up (a bit comes out with each of the 4 you undo).

So, they're fixing that now. I know there aren't that many diesels, but it's so shocking how clueless they are. From now on, it will go in with a giant sticker in there saying NO!

It is a challenge sometimes in tracking down the right parts.

Anyone who has installed a duct cover/screen noticed any change in temps when tracking the car?

Only concerned about on-track experience. These cars stay pretty cool.

They are clearly clearing their own website backorders before orders from other websites haha.

Nice, mine is coming tomorrow, shipped from NV.

I'm hoping its all in one piece. Some have said theirs had broken or bent clips on arrival before.

I think we'll have more data come track season. It's too damn cold and wet in most parts of the country, outside of SoCal, TX and AZ I suppose.

I’ve emailed them to ship them ASAP. It’ll run without them until they do. As long as I don’t hit 200+ it should be ok.

I guess mistakes happen… but it was a bummer because it took me a while to figure it out.

These are what you need - M6-1.0 x 16mm, I ditched the ones came with the plate because I didn't want the washers being separate and got some of these instead from eBay, besides, I didn't want the shiny bolts.

Mine came with 7 bolts in a small plastic bag.

2 mistakes in the install:
1- not watching the install video ahead of time (I’d know to expect new bolts) - during the install I was thinking it was poorly designed. So I watched it, and saw the bolts… and then realized I didn’t have them (or so I thought), so I felt less frustrated because, as I said, mistakes happen and I thought they just didn’t ship the bolts by mistake (especially forgivable since they’re rushing orders through, and they can easily make it right if needed).
2- not checking the package thoroughly.

Sorry guys. I’ll install them later. The good part is that I don’t need to raise the car on ramps to do these, they’re right upfront easy peasy.

I feel stupid. Especially for posting about it. Oh well life goes on. Thanks for pointing it out. Happy Friday all!
Go stand in the corner and repeat to yourself:

I will unpack methodically, confirm receipt of all parts as I read the instructions provided.

To be honest, I am not 100% sold on how all the plates on the G8x series are mounted, the back & sides are mounted to plastic grommets, the front is simply wedged in between the plastic skins with 7 bolts keeping things in place, everything else is attached to plastic in short. It will stay, but those plastic grommets are not designed for weighted items other than plastic sheets and can easily be stripped.

At least the Turner's plate for the G42 are mounted via their metal brackets in the rear against a cross member (metal to metal) and serves as load bearing.

New oil cooler guard from AutoID available. Slightly more coverage than mishimoto, but looks like it might sit lower.

Had a close call with a rogue piece of wood drifting over to my lane on the highway and me running over it because I didn't see it. If I didn't have my Mishimoto skidplate it could have cooked the oil cooler and potentially the engine as well. If you haven't already, I'd 100% recommend going for one of the various options on the market. I chose Mishimoto and have absolutely zero regrets and am glad I got it before anything bad could happen.

Haha thanks, and no, I was lying on the floor for like 10 minutes and couldn’t find any marring or scrapes anywhere on the car. There was a little stain but I think that was dried soap from when I washed my car since I rubbed a wet paper towel on it and it went away
