Crazy that some 2024 orders will be delivered alongside/before some 2023 orders.

I guess it was bound to happen with cars taking over 2+ months after they are finished being built to when they get on a ship. Still, it seems like their logistics should be better...

I do not understand why that is. Didnt BMW factor in transportation when they considered building a plant in Mexico?

Of course they did. But if the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that supply chains are fragile and don’t take shocks well.

And BMW definitely cares as they can’t book revenue until delivery.

Edit: going to leave my original comment, but I stand corrected. It looks like automakers with dealer networks (like BMW) might book revenue when the vehicle leaves the factory. Maybe that’s why they keep cranking out orders lol.

My app still shows “ready for transport”, but according to my CA it left the factory on 8/7, but he hasn’t seen any updates since. Did it get lost in the way to the boat? Wtf.

I am sure they thought about transportation ... however doesnt mean everything is going as smoothly as they planned on it going. I dont know if anyone made it on the ship that just left a day or two ago ... I am hoping that a bunch of us will have a nice surprise once it gets docked in the states

Why aren't things updated on the website more quickly?

In this instance does fragile supply chain mean lack of ships, rail cars manpower?

Same thing on mine, "Ready for Transport" BMW Genius told me it went to "In Transit to Port of Departure" on 8/11

Nothing since then, My CA checked again 2 days ago and still in the same status

Unsure. I am a little…something that it was moved from the factory at the beginning of the month and there’s no confirmation that it actually arrived anywhere. I’m hoping it’s just super behind and I get a surprise that it made it onto a boat (or the one in a few days), but I’m not holding my breath. I understand backups, but at this point I’m guessing it will arrive in late October/early November just in time for summer tires in a winter climate….

Also a little annoyed as my CA said that my dealer has a discount on parts for BMWCCA members, but not on winter tire packages. He then sent me a link for “good looking time for 3k”, but they are for the F87.

I’m sure they are just waiting for a ship assignment, but just update it already. Also not feeling the most comfortable knowing it’s just sitting open on a lot somewhere given that my wife’s car was just totaled from a hail storm.

Plus it's hurricane season. I don't know how often hurricanes hit that part of Mexico but I would assume it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Fragile as in they were optimized to “happy path” (aka everything going correctly) to keep costs down. However, when doing that, the supply chains can’t handle shocks like lack of ships, rail cars, etc. And it creates a bullwhip effect where variability gets amplified down the supply chain.

My car finished production in 6/20/23 and it is still waiting for a freaking ship (ready to transport). At this point, just hire the Cartel to move the cars already. /s

Honestly I think I would bow out at that point. 2 months with no updates is absurd.

I can beat that my car made 26th May still not left Mexico 🇲🇽 SHIT SHOW
No updates ever from dealer ! Considering in UK 🇬🇧 we get no visibility or info via the app - this to me is unacceptable when all the data is available.
Worst new car buying experience ever
Cars not shipped to any fair logical order !
Some left for months languishing !!😡!
