that's cool...first thing i can think of is for people to take it before the drive home to prevent drunk driving.

interesting for sure, but it seems it doesn't change the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream, just how it affects you. Legally, you would still be driving drunk...and I'm not sure how well the "but I took a pill" defense would hold up in court. Could be especially troublesome if it merely reduces the effects rather than eliminates them...

yeah i was just thinking about the effect, not the alch level. unless they make a statutory exception (which is unlikely) you'll still get a DUI.

This could be very dangerous if made commercially available. The ill effects felt from alcohol "poisoning" are the body's signals which regulate consumption to a relatively safe level. Something like this (which I assume keeps the alcohol-inhibited receptors in the brain open) could easily lead to OD death, especially in teens. If the nervous system stays awake (when there's enough ethanol that it should black out) and more alcohol is ingested, it's a bad situation.

^ that's true, but if this drug takes away the effects you feel from drinking, that may encourage people to stop drinking. like how some people take chantix.

There would be a large amount of people would take it so they can drink more, or so they could drive after drinking.
