Hi everyone!

I recently spotted a 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage cabrio with only 3k miles on the odometer. 1 Florida owner, clean carfax, no accident history/damage, etc. flawless condition. My only hesitation is that it's off warranty. I've never bought a pre-owned car before so I don't even know where to start. Is it possible to purchase an extended warranty from the Aston dealership or am I better off paying to fix as I go or with an outside agency? I am hoping with such low miles I won't have any problem for a few years.

Sounds about right. The v8 is pretty reliable compared to cars in its class,especially considering most are garage queens. But it looks so good that if you can swing it why not.

What about if I wanted to put a decent amount of miles on it? I don't want to spend all this money for it to sit in my garage. My logic is if I buy it I may as well use it. Maybe like 5-10k mpy?

I would be scared with those low miles, exotics don't fair well being parked 360 days a year.

Why not? Would I be better off with something with 15-20k miles?

Also, what about the no warranty aspect. Can I get an extended with the dealer or am I better off not doing that?

You should probably ask the Aston Martin dealer if you can get a warranty, not a BMW forum.

Same argument on all other CPO/warranty arguments: The dealer is making money on the CPO/warranty...or are you better just putting that money towards repairs.

If you want to put a lot of miles on it (finally someone that drives these things) then it becomes questionable. Maybe consider a Audi r8 or a Maserati or even a 6 series.

I agree with finding one that has been used more (15-20k miles) and/or has been enthusiast owned. Have an reputable mechanic that works with Aston's do a PPI and if you get the clear sign (and the right price) go for it. Go for the coupe as they age better and have less things to go wrong. Old verts rattle and squeak which drive me nuts.

I agree as well, especially with the enthusiast owned part.

A five-year old vehicle should not have such little miles. Slightly suspect, unless it was part of a collection. Definitely ask for full service history as fluids need to be changed even though the vehicle might not be driven frequently.

Seems he bought an R8 V10 Spyder .

you can always option for factory extended warranty if purchasing from an AM dealer or 3rd party/private extend warranty providers should both be fine. I agree with you that any car is built to be driven not to sit beautifully in a garage, otherwise, buying some expensive living room furnitures should do the trick.

Personally, I wouldn't buy this car with the intention of driving 5-10K/yr.

I fully plan on driving it as much as possible. If I'm going to spend the money I may as well use it, right? If I go through with it I'll probably end up getting the 2 year ended warranty from AM for peace of mind. Thank you everyone for your helpful comments/thoughts; I appreciate it!

It's definitely 500-600 dollars for a Lamborghini oil change at the dealership, at least on a 2005 Murcielago. I don't know where they got 2,000 from. Also, I think an Aston Martin will cost less to maintain than the cars they mentioned.

$2000/oil change sounds bit too crazy; however, around $1000 can be possible because dealers like to sell them as a package. You get an oil change plus some minor checkups that can run around 1 grand easily, at least in canada maybe.
