Not pushing the MB, in fact, I have never owned a MB. Last 5 cars, ALL BMW's. My point is that it's not a bad looking car(far from ugly) and AMG finally has produced a vehicle that is both relavant and can actually compete with the ///M's. If I was in the market for a 4door(happy with my Mcoupe), it would be very difficult to decide. If forced to make a choice I would prob pick the M3.

Although people always have and always will compare AMG and M, I think they make cars with very different purposes in mind, and will therefore attract buyers with different purposes.
The M3 has always been about track-worthy performance in a street vehicle that can be driven everyday. It is alot more balanced and refined and will hold its own on the track. It is a compromise, however. It's not a true track car and there are many cars out there that will either be more fun to drive at the track, or run faster times. The track friendly nature of the M3 also means that it is a harsher daily driver. That is not to say the M3 isn't a great car, but it definitely is more track oriented and handles the track and daily driving well. AMG cars, and in this case the C63, are more daily drivers and street kings. They will hold their own on the track to some respects, but are geared more towards everyday driving. The cars are built for Mercedes owners who cruise the streets but want more power and more exclusivity. Mercedes in general has always been more about luxury and comfort than sportiness, and AMG, although sporty in nature, will not compromise what makes a Mercedes a Mercedes. Therefore, AMGs will shove a powerful huge engine into Mercedes' cars, stiffen the suspension, add rims and a body kit, and upgrade the brakes, but it is still a Mercedes and a street cruiser. This is also why, despite minor protests, you probably won't be seeing a manual in an AMG any time soon. The AMG also compromises in very much the same was as the M3, it just leans in the other direction. I don't think there's anything wrong with liking an M3 or a C63 more, they cater to completely different desires in buying a $50k+ vehicle. To the majority of Americans, that's alot of money to spend on a car, and at that price point, people are more picky about the purpose behind their cars. Therefore, people who are more inclined to track their cars and really have fun in engaging their cars will lean more towards the M3. People who are street cruisers but want to own the street and keep up with 99% of the cars out there while doing so, will lean towards the C63. Nothing wrong with either choice, but they are built for different types of people. In all honesty though, the M3 and the C63 ARE compromises. If you really want a track car, you wouldn't get an M3, and if you really wanted a luxury sedan street cruiser, you wouldn't get a C63. My choice for track? GT3RS. Street cruising? B7. My garage? 335i, 997 Turbo, E63, S550, Cayenne Turbo. Hopefully didn't compromise too much. |

I think its an emotional thing, if I have the cash to spend at this exact moment, I'll be going to the MB dealership first.

Remember that even Jeremy Clarkson admitted that the M3 was better track car than the C63. He couldn't hit the apex at full bore to save his life. lol |

I love my e92..the M3 is similar overall but has its own unique touches. I feel that the C63 would be a better car for me b/c it has 4 doors (and I dont like the e90 NOR the M3 sedan) Better comparison would be the M3 sedan vs C63. M3 sedan is FUGLY IMHO...but then again i dont like e90s either... |

We loved the E46 M3 over the C55 because of it's rawness behind the wheel. The E92 however has gotten softer, but the C63 has definitely muscled more 'axe murderer'. To me, it really seems like the cars have switched roles even though their performance has not. The M3 has obviously set its target for a more mainstream market, while the C63 has set its eyes on a smaller group of more hardcore people willing to feel more bumps on the road.
You could argue that 'automatic sucks', but you would be saying that about your own tuning house as they specifically chose the M5/M6 to be auto only. In the end however, GT-R/CTS-V > M3/C63/IS-F in all performance catagories. God the CTS-V has a pretty interior! Last edited by vAnt826; 05-11-2008 at 05:38 AM.. |
