14 years old with probably 10 year of diving practice each and every day. She was flawless. For me, it was amazing to watch perfection, dive after dive. |

I never ever watch marathons but I am glued to my TV right now watching the women's Olympic marathon that is getting close to its conclusion and an American woman is shocking everyone as she is in the lead group (only 4 remaining). If I heard the announcers correctly this woman (Molly Seidel) is only in her 3rd marathon ever.
Racing in Sapporo (Northern Japan) and the heat has got to be draining on these women. If she just medals it will be a spectacular shock, let alone possibly get the gold. She's hanging with the top runners in the world from Kenya. |

Nice to see US men's team salvage a gold in the 4 x 400m relay final. Women did the same and gave Allyson Felix her 11th medal in the Olympics surpassing Carl Lewis for most medals.

They're playing each other tonight for the gold medal. Japan hasn't been a "powerhouse" but they've got a former NBA player as their head coach and I've heard he's super strict with them but has got them playing at a really high level. They're fast, play aggressive swarming defense and good outside shooters. |

Allyson also got a bronze in the women's 400m, congrats to her, she is now one of the highest decorated Olympians in history if I believe correctly. Sadly it's her last Olympics. I've enjoyed watching her participate in the last few Olympics. |

Kudos to Japan for holding a successful and safe Olympics. It's a shame they didn't reap the benefits of this Olympics but they did their best and it seems all of the athletes sincerely appreciated it. Respect.

So US won by 1 gold medal vs China... solid finish to the track events... I wish that we did better in sprints overall... i bet in 4 years we will come back at top.

I had been watching that gold medal count for the past few days hoping the US would surpass China. I literally watched the remaining events including women's basketball and volleyball (they won GOLD) on television LIVE! I was happy to see they just made it, haha.
Yes, they were expected to do better, particularly in gymnastics and sprint events but I'll take it! Japan had their biggest haul of medals, including gold so at least they have something to be happy about. |

I hinted this on occasion while these Olympics were ongoing but I can't help but feel bittersweet sorrow for Japan and the thousands and thousands of people that helped organize this massive event and the endless volunteers that had waited for this to happen since several years ago. It affects me personally because I have such a close relationship with people there and travel there regularly.
Just a microcosm of this is a few years ago while taking a taxi cab to my hotel in Tokyo the driver proudly talked about the upcoming Olympics (still a few years away at that time) and pointed out the new statues and miscellaneous art projects that were developed specifically for tourists that were expected to visit Tokyo. He had pointed out a cool "katana" museum that was built to my surprise as I didn't even know about it and I know the city pretty well. It just showed the tremendous pride they had and trust me when I say the great sacrifices people made for this event to take place. If it weren't for COVID, they should have had a tremendous success and accommodated a massive number of tourists who in turn would have pumped money into the local economies yet none of that happened and it's such a shame. They will never admit or say they regret hosting the Olympics but they have lost a mind boggling amount of money in the billions of Dollars. I despise the IOC because they are a bunch of greedy a-holes. |

Now this is a very cool story. I remembered reading about this female wrestler wanting to buy her mom a food truck. Props to the company providing the truck. Goes to show there are still happy stories out there.
