RIP Eric Keller

Just heard that he passed away from a motorcycle accident today. For those of you who don’t know him, he was the owner of EAG in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was probably his last video.

RIP.

RIP

I haven't been on a bike in 5+ years. Rode for many years in SoCal, many close calls.

Sad news about this BMW enthusiast and with so many vehicles on the road it's not that safe on a m/cycle as it was years ago.

Oh no! So sad, nice guy too. Hope his brother carries on the EAG torch. I stopped riding about 8 yrs ago, loved it but way too dangerous. I always had a thought in my head where I’d say to myself, I love this but I can’t want until it’s gone.

I've ridden Honda,Kawasaki,Suzuki mid range bikes, had one when a cyclist pulled in front of me WW and went over the top of me, he went to hospital with cut leg.
Got to wear leather jacket, armor padding and boots when riding.

It's always sad to hear news like that but you can't cover yourself in bubble wrap and stay in bed.

Cyclists die, motorists die, pedestrians die by the thousands every day.

Have fun and live life.

Cross-post from General BMW Forum too, heard about it from this thread:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1856032

Really sucks, planning on making a trip up there sooner rather than later now. Massive influence in the BMW community as a whole, he will be missed greatly.

That may be true, but this is the account I read:
Quote:
WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio —
A 39-year-old man is dead following a West Chester motorcycle crash Wednesday night.
It happened around 9:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of West Chester Road, between Butler-Warren Road and Outlook Drive.
According to officials, the driver of the motorcycle somehow went off the road and crashed.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Butler County Coroner has identified the victim as 39-year-old Eric Keller, of Cincinnati.
Crash investigators say it is unclear if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The cause of the accident remains unclear.

Condolences to his family and fans.
A quick glance from the road will sometimes be long enough to get in trouble on a bike.
Had this happen plenty, the curb will eff up your world.
Taking a hard turn too fast and not being prepared… got my wreck on helmet cam video.
I was fortunate to walk away with a broken collarbone.

That can mean anything in that he lost it on his motorcycle or it was a hit and run, and maybe no helmet? Very unusual and getting a blow out is also a possibility.

In 2006, legendary professional motorcycle riding trainer and motorcycle safety expert Larry Grodsky was killed in the early morning hours from impact with a deer while in Texas during a cross-country ride from California to Pennsylvania. Grodsky wrote for Rider magazine. There was probably no one more experienced at riding motorcycles safely. Just because Keller was a BMW M-car guy doesn't necessarily mean he was a well-experienced or well-trained motorcyclist.

Ohio is a helmet-free state. There is a good possibility Keller encountered a deer or other animal, which caused the accident. It could have been a light collision that left no evidence of an animal collision, or overreaction to a near hit. Based on the police report that it was unclear Keller was wearing a helmet, odds are good he wasn't.

Statistically, motorcycle riding is about as dangerous as some forms of private GA piloting. Of the several professional pilots and GA pilots on this Forum, none of us make such statements that flying is more dangerous now with increased flight traffic as compared to the 1970s. We should keep some perspective.

For sure we can at least assume it was a freak accident coming out of the blue, every motorcyclists worst scenario, and await the conclusion of the investigation.

No reason to expect we'll ever hear any more about it. It's up to the family and nothing to gain by it.

Assume whatever you want but always wear all the gear all the time. Be safe out there!

When I was biking it was always leather jacket and gloves with armour, non stretch Levis (extremely tough), boots, even on the hottest days and of course full face helmet with maximum thickness visor.

Tragic loss for his family / friends and BMW community as a whole. Eric was brilliant. Not to get too specific but his casket was legendary. White with the BMW flag (BMW LTW colors). He was a legend with vision and a focus that not many in the car industry have. RIP Eric you will be missed. Continue to support his brother Evan and EAG as he carries on their vision in the years to come.
