vinyl wrap on glossy black rocker panels

This has probably been discussed in earlier threads, if so please link to it, but what about covering the glossy black rocker panels in a vinyl wrap (like 3m) that matches the paint color, assuming a close match is available?

I do not see any universe in which the glossy black plastic isn't absolutely covered in swirl marks within the first year, especially if you live in an area with winter weather, dirt, etc.

I have black sapphire metallic and I am hoping I could get the rocker panels wrapped and have something that matches the body color and will be easier to maintain than the black plastic.

Vinyl Wrap is a real option here.

How would vinyl compare to painting them price wise?

I think it would be less overall.
Even if one gets them painted, then there is Paint Protection Film and ceramic coating questions.
Vinyl Wrap is a more of a one and done process I think.

I think vinyl is a great option for that lower rocker panel area.

Great idea. I have been thinking of ways to get the rocker panel into body color. I saw a thundernight 230i at the dealership and the uniform body color looks much better than the black at the bottom. Let us know how the 3m works if you go that route.

We could always just have the rockers done in clear PPF if someone didn't want to do a color change.

That is a good idea, I dont know why BMW made that high gloss black except for the 230i with no package or w/o m-sport pkg

Buying new ones and just painting them is also a good idea. Doing that if you ever get tired of the painting ones, just swap them out, it is too much black unless your get black saphirre metallic.

I am deciding between m240 or the new m2 (once I see one), i sure hope BMW does not make the bumper on the G87 to funky, why cant BMW simply take the front end of M240i and make it look like a normal front end

If I do get the m240, I will probably buy another set and paint them body color.

I remember on the E36, it was black 1st couple of years but then was body color maybe BMW will do the same here

Have anybody looked to see how hard it is to the them off, is it just ABS plastic

I was thinking the same think. Paint would be 5x the cost. You may be able to wrap with them still on veh.

I probably buy a set and have painted, just my opinion

Does anyone know when the m2 debut is supposed to occurr, I hope it does not have that funky front end like on spy shorts. Must be like that or majority of the spyshots I have seen the shots show the square front end.

If they would just take the g42 front end and make it an M-car

Anyone agree
