Android Auto experience / concerns
This is my first car with android auto (which is mostly awesome), but I've run into issues with my phone getting hot and massive battery drain. (-40% in 2 hour trip). It makes sense, but I didnt realize the phone was basically casting for Android auto to work... Google maps with screen on sucks less power.
Now.... The real issue. I was reading above that the front USB is only 1.5amps. When I use android auto AND my phone is plugged in, the power actually decreased instead of charging! Has anyone else experienced this? Granted, it could be my phone.. I do need a new one. Other issues I have is android auto disconnects a lot. I think thr disconnects may be related to the battery % being too low. This is not an issue, but a function of design. You can use every app on your phone, including texting, but android auto locks you out of Google maps? So you have to rely on the touch screen or vocir commands which aren't great for predicting destinations. Sigh... |

Note in the attached photo, the phone is plugged into the front USB port. I unplugged and replugged and it finally started charging. But as you can see, it does detect a plug, but not enough juice.

Why not use the higher powered USB C port that’s in the center?
They list the maximum power of each port in the manual. Last edited by jpcoop; 03-07-2022 at 03:05 PM.. Reason: Typo |

With my Samsung note 20 ultra I gain battery while wireless charging, running maps and and YouTube music.
My screen is dark minus an incoming call or notification. Then it goes dark again once I pick up or after a few seconds with a notification So I would check some phone settings or try the USB c port |

The problem may actually be your cable. I had a similar issue with my GTI when i got it. i was using a random usb-c cable and I was actually losing a charge while it was plugged it. I switched to the cable that actually came with my phone and now it charges great.
I don't know what the problem was with the other cable but you may want to try that. |

With Samsung Phones you will have a feature called Bixby routine whilst connected to a car BT you can do things like dim display turn off wifi and other power-hungry features to conserve power whilst charging and using wireless AA.
